# Install the Desktop Agent

> Install the Starfort Desktop Agent on Windows.

<Note>
  **Windows only.** The Desktop Agent runs on Windows. Step-by-step installation screenshots are being finalized and will be added in a documentation update.
</Note>

The Starfort **Desktop Agent** runs in the background on a Windows PC and transparently enforces your company's [Guard Policies](/en/v1.2/concepts/guard-policy) on the AI tools employees use.

## What you'll need

* A Windows PC.
* The Desktop Agent installer provided by your administrator.
* A **Company Access Key** — depending on how your administrator packaged the installer, you may not need this (see below).

## Two delivery models

Your administrator builds the installer in one of two ways, and this is the only difference you'll notice at install time:

* **Key pre-baked into the package** — the key is already inside the installer. The Agent runs automatically after installation with no key to enter.
* **Key not included** — you enter the **Company Access Key** once, on the Agent's first launch (your admin issues it in [Desktop Agent settings](/en/v1.2/admin/desktop-agent-settings)).
